Alexander Technique and swimming

Gliding

The Art of Swimming is based on Alexander principles and a deep understanding of the coordination of the body as a whole. Water is a wonderful medium for letting go of tensions. Discover your natural affinity for the aquatic environment and find more harmony within yourself.

It’s not necessary to plough mindlessly up and down the pool (in fact that can be quite harmful)! Swimming can be a form of playful re-creation. In many ways it’s the most complete form of therapeutic exercise. Learning all of the main strokes tones and makes supple the whole body.

The hallmarks of this approach:

  • step-by-step development of each part of the stroke
  • one-to-one guided instruction (within small groups in workshops) in the water helps you experience from within the necessary coordination
  • clear demonstration and explanations
  • objective feedback, including video-filming.
